Welcome to my web site. This is my first experiment in creating a web page. I'm glad you've visited it. I tried to keep it simple and quick-loading. Let me introduce myself. My name is Katerina Taganova. I was born, grew up and received my education in St. Petersburg, Russia. After getting my degree in computer science I worked for 3 years as a computer engineer. Meantime my father taught me how to paint traditional russian icons, but I did not receive any formal art education in Russia. At present I am a student at Santa Monica College majoring in art and planning to become a professional artist. Nowadays I often use my computer as a sketch tool and create digital images. But I still want to make "handmade" art like ceramics and prints, which has fingerprints of its creator. I began to work with clay for the first time 10 years ago. I started by digging my first clay out of the ground and making traditional ceramic whistles. Later I learned how to use a potter wheel and now prefer wheel-thrown stoneware. I spent last two years learning different traditional printmaking techniques like linocut, etching and aquatint. What I like about printmaking is the idea that I am able to make several print editions of the same image on different paper using ink of different colors. Then I could give away a few prints and still have one for my own portfolio. |
